چکیده

The arrangement of fine hairs on the longitudinal and transverse flagella of Woloszynskia vticra is illustrated and discussed. Dilations of the nuclear envelope and endoplasmic reticulum in W. micra, similar in appearance and location to those containing flagellar hairs in other algal and fungal zoids, are found to contain bundles of fibrils. These fibrils are approximately the same width and length as the flagellar hairs. For the above reasons it is now considered that the flagellar hairs in the dinoflagellate W. micra are formed intracellularly within dilations of the nuclear envelope and endoplasmic reticulum and later deposited on the flagella.

The intracellular origin of flagellar hairs in the Chrysophyceae and Xanthophyceae.

Cells of the chrysophycean flagellate Olisthodiscus hiteus contain bundles of aligned tubes and fibres within membrane-limited vesicles. Each element in a vesicle consists of a tapering portion 0-25 ftm long, a shaft 1-5 /im long and a terminal fibre 025 /tm long; the shaft is approximately 15 nm in diameter and has a helical cross-banding with a periodicity of 8 nm. The flagellar hairs of Olis...

Mixotrophy in the newly described phototrophic dinoflagellate Woloszynskia cincta from western Korean waters: feeding mechanism, prey species and effect of prey concentration.

Woloszynskia species are dinoflagellates in the order Suessiales inhabiting marine or freshwater environments; their ecophysiology has not been well investigated, in particular, their trophic modes have yet to be elucidated. Previous studies have reported that all Woloszynskia species are photosynthetic, although their mixotrophic abilities have not been explored. We isolated a dinoflagellate f...

The origin of Flimmer in Saprolegnia, Dictyuchus, Synura and Cryptomonas.

The endoplasmic reticulum of Saprolegnia, Dictyuchus, Synura and Cryptomonas may contain tubules less than 20 nm in diameter. In Saprolegnia these tubules have a maximum length of 1-6/tin, a wall of a single layer of colchicine-resistant, osmiophilic subunits, and a tapering end-piece. Flimmer hairs (flagellar hairs) are morphologically similar and are attached to the flagellum sheath by a tape...

O-11: Dynamics of Flagellar Force Generated by A Hyperactivated Spermatozoon

Background: To clarify the mechanism of sperm penetration through the zona pellucida, the flagellar force generated by a hyperactivated spermatozoon was evaluated using the resistive force theory applied to the hyperactivated flagellar waves that were obtained from the mammalian spermatozoa. Materials and Methods: The hydrodynamic calculation of the flagellar force of the activated (non-hyperac...

Dinoflagellate cysts from the Upper Triassic (Rhaetian) strata of the Tabas Block, East - Central Iran

Rhaetian strata from the Nayband Formation of the Tabas block, East- Central Iran, were studied palynologically. The materialexamined contained moderately diverse and well-preserved dinoflagellate cyst assemblages which lead to the identification ofRhaetogonyaulax rhaetica Zone. The assigned age of this dinozone (Rhaetian) is justified by plant fossils such as Equisetitesarenaceus, Scytophyllum...
